1962年福岡市生まれ。1987年九州産業大学芸術学部写真家学科卒業。その後、東京の写真スタジオに入社し、1990年には「PARCO PROMISING PHOTOGRAPHERS 2」に入選し「朝日広告表現技術賞」を受賞。1993年に初の写真集「UNTITLED」を刊行。現在、フォトグラファー専科のエージェントSPUTNIK代表を務める傍ら、広告やジャケットイメージ、ファッション雑誌やカタログを中心に活躍中。

Born in Hakata in 1962, Akira Kitajima graduated from the Kyushu Industrial University Art Faculty Photography course in 1987. He moved to Tokyo and began working at a studio. In 1990 he was selected for PARCO PROMISING PHOTOGRAPHERS 2, and won the Asahi Expression in Advertising Prize. In 1993 his first monograph, titled “UNTITLED” was published. He is the boss of photographer agency SPUTNIK and works on movie ads, jacket images, fashion magazines and catalogues.
