PUBLIC RECORDS・SLEEPING BAGからの作品や、LARGE PROFESSORの脱退と入れ替わりで、90年代初期?から活動し、HIP HOPの歴史に大きな足跡を残したグループ『MAIN SOURCE』(後述)に加入した事で有名。LLとグル?ープを組んだ後、Main Source以前に結成していたL.A.POSSEとの?連名にて今は亡きPOUL Cプロデュースによる作品を発表し、また2008年リリ?ースのLARGE PROFESSOR”PUMP YA FIST”での客演でも知られ、未だソロやフューチャー?アーティストとしてニューヨークHIP HOPの最先端を行くラッパーである。
Main Sourceとは
エクストラ・Pの異名でも知られるラージ・プロフェッサ?ー(Large Professor)、Kカット(K-Cut)、サー・?スクラッチ(Sir Scratch)の3人からなる、HIP HOPの歴史に大きな足跡を残したグループ。特にラージ?・プロフェッサーのサンプリング・センスやドラム・プロ?グラミングを含むプロダクション・スキルはDJプレミア?(DJ Premier)、ピート・ロック(Pete Rock)、Q-ティップ(Q-Tip)らを含む多くの?アーティストに影響を与えたことで有名。
1991年、Wild Pitchよりデビューアルバム”Breaking Atoms”をリリース。ナズ(Nas)がソロデビュー?を前に客演した”Live at the Barbeque”、”Just Hangin’ Out”、”Looking at the Front Door”などのクラシック曲を含むこのアルバムはシー?ンの絶賛を集めた。その後、ラージ・プロフェッサーはグ?ループを脱退、プロデュース業とソロ活動に専念。残った?2人はラッパーのマイキー・D(Mikey D)を加えて1994年、セカンドアルバム”F*ck What You Think”をリリースし一世風靡した。
Born in Queens, Mikey D’s credentials are solidified. Hip Hop knows the former Reality Records and Sleeping Bag Records artist, the young gunner of the late producer Paul C, the New Music Seminar Battle Champion, the controversial battle and defeat of Marly Marl, the one Chosen to take the front of acclaimed group Main Source after the departure of Large Professor.
In 1985, Mikey D along with the Symbolic Three
signed to Reality Records to release songs like ‘No Show’ (the answer to Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick’s ‘The Show’), along with ‘Treacherous’. In 1986, Mikey D (and DJ Johnnie Quest) signed with Public Records and put out classics Like ‘Dawn,’ ‘My Telephone,’ and ‘Bust A Rhyme’. In 1987 he hit the industry with ‘I Get Rough’ (B side ‘Go For it’) with legendary producer Paul C. In 1988, Mikey signed to Sleeping Bag Records. Entered in the New Music Seminar he was victorious and proclaimed the best MC in the world (as he predicted in 1987’s ‘I Get Rough’). Later that year, he released ‘Out Of Control’ and the wicked ‘Comin’ In The House’.
In 1994 Mikey D was enlisted by Main Source to replace Large Professor. Mikey (along with K-Cut and Sir Scratch) hit the studio and recorded the sequel to ‘Breaking Atoms’ entitled “F*ck What You Think”. Although another historic album was
