An exciting new DJ, producer & event promoter from London’s influential drum and bass scene is, W10 CEO, Danny Wheeler. His debut release, ‘Ghost & Lost Highway’, launched him and co-producer, Sub Focus, into the Top 5 of the UK Dance Charts and Top 20 of the Indie Charts, out-selling Badly Drawn Boy.
Danny, described by DJ Magazine as a “hotly tipped future producer”, continues to push the boundries of drum & bass. He was headhunted by J Majik to become the label manager of Infrared Records, where he used his A&R skills to bring artists like DJ Marky & XRS, Sub Focus, Clipz (Redlight) to the label and he helped get the label remixes for Groove Armada at the camp. He moved into production at Infrared, after learning production skills from J Majik & Adam F.
On the day BBC legend John Peel passed away, Zane Lowe introduced his primetime BBC Radio 1 show by dedicating Danny’s track Lost Highway to the memory of Peel. He gets support on BBC Radio from Djs such as Gilles Peterson, Annie Mac playing his tunes. He also gets supported on London’s numerous pirate radio stations and London’s Kiss FM.
Wheeler’s history in promoting events goes back to when he was head of promotions for UK promoters ‘Movement London’ at Bar Rumba, he went on to promote his own nights; first ‘Spit Kingdom’ at Herbal with Killa Kela, Jack Beats & The Mixologists. Later he went on to promote his own hugely successful W10 parties at prestigious London venues such as Herbal, Bar Rumba and many other venues.
As part of the award winning Movement crew and the Infrared collective. He became an International DJ with regular residencies at Barcelona’s Breakstorm Club, Venezeula & Argentina, The Westbury and Paradise Bar in London and DJs around the world, everywhere from Tokyo, Beijing, to Cape Town, South Africa, Croatia, France, Columbia and all over Europe.
Danny Wheeler plays alongside a plethora of guests at his own events; Bryan Gee, DJ Hype, Krust & DJ Die, J Majik, Bugz In The Attic, I G Culture (Co-Op club), Jack Beats, Killa Kela, The Mixologists (DMC world champs), A.I., Brookes Bros, Sub Focus, MC MC & Moose are just some of the artists who bring their positive vibes to the W10 nights.
He also DJs at Fabric (legendary London club); for Breakbeat Kaos, True Playaz, Fabric Live and LTJ Bukem’s Good Lookin’ nights, he is sponsored by UK clothing companies Addict & Carhartt. Addict have used his image to advertise their products and recently commissioned a limited edition T-shirt with ‘Danny Wheeler’s’ image on it.
Danny Wheeler presents; The Brazil Project on Brazilian Jazz label Far Out Recordings, was released in November 2010, it is a collection of remixes produced by Wheeler combining classical Brazilian Jazz, soul and funk with drum and bass, hip hop and dubstep and includes remixes of Herbie Hancock, Incognito, Azyumuth.
In 2010 he made dance music history featuring in the Guinness Book of Records as one of the DJs who broke the record for the most DJs to consecutively mix one record, broadcast live on BBC Radio 1 Extra. In 2011 he will release his debut artist album Universal Language on W10 Records, featuring collaborations with The Suitboys aka Taku Takahashi, US house diva Kathy Brown, Blu James from Basement Jaxx, it is a soulful drum and bass, hip hop and house record.
