なによりも直感を重んじるアーティスト然とした態度と理知的なエンジニア的側面、哲学性すら含んだアルチザン（職人）的態度、はたまた幼年期に故郷チリから政治的理由により亡命を余儀なくされたことによるディアスポラ的なものへの共感と憧憬など、さまざまな（ときにパラドキシカルな）要素がその内面において奇妙かつ高度な次元でバランスした、2000年代最初の10年を代表するカリスマ。その恐るべき資質は圧倒的な掌握力でその場をサウンドそのものが主体となる祝祭的空間に仕立て上げてしまうDJセット、および数々のエポック・メイキングな作品群を生み出すスタジオ・ワークで剥き出しのかたちとなって聴く者をことごとく圧倒する。徹底的にハイプを回避しつつ、ヴィラロボスがプレイするレコードたちはテクノやハウスといった既存のカテゴライズ概念から解放され、自由に呼吸するサウンドそのものとしての推進力を与えられる。そのDJセットにおける唯一無二の求心力はいまなお衰えるところを知らない。CHAOSへは2002年5月以来、丸10年ぶりの登場。
A pioneer and legend from the minimal scene, Ricardo Villalobos will be making his ?rst appearance at “BIG BEACH FESTIVAL” this year. Ricardo Villalobos, a native of Chile, was born in 1970 and moved with his parents to Germany at the age of three. In the 90s, his major releases came out of record labels such as “Playhouse” and “Perlon.” Since then, he has become a major player and icon for “Cocoon” alongside with founder, Sven Vaeth. With his South American roots ?avored rhythmically throughout his tracks, Ricardo Villalobos was picked number one as the “Top DJs of 2010” through music online magazine “Resident Advisor” (he was also picked number one in 2008). His compassion for vinyl, and tending to stick with analog records when it comes to DJing, has brought him recognition and respect from the dance music scene.
