Regi, famous Belgian DJ and producer, and Hikaru, a Japanese Youtuber with over 3 million subscribers from Japan. What do the two have in common? Appearing on stage at Tomorrowland 2019 in Belgium, apparently. In a strange turn of events celebrated by fans of the Japanese Youtuber online, Hikaru appeared onstage holding the Tomorrowland flag during a performance by Regi at the festival in Belgium. Acting as essential ambassadors of hype from Japan, Hikaru and his video Co-star Soma helped rouse the crowd while Regi DJed “In My Eyes” by Milk Inc. The Belgian artist added some Japanese flair, incorporating what seems to be sound bytes of Hikaru, rapping “It’s me, Hikaru” among other things in Japanese, into the performance.

Appearing on Twitter and Instagram alongside Regi as well as other Tomorrowland DJs like W&W, Yves, Armin van Buuren, and more, one has to wonder the Japanese Youtuber’s connection to the Belgian festival. Is Hikaru a big EDM fan, or are these DJs fans of Hikaru? With over 3 million subscribers, it’s believable that either way, Hikaru might have some sway as a Youtuber in getting an appearance onstage at such a large and important festival. With W&W making an appearance at ageHa in Japan this September, could we see another onstage appearance by the famous youtuber?

Hikaru creates variety content typical of large Japanese Youtubers, recording reactions of himself and his close friends as they engage in various pranks and hijinks. The Youtuber also has an obvious degree of interest in and talent for music, having posted 22 extremely well-produced music videos of original songs and counting, with influences ranging from J-pop, hip-hop, and EDM. Perhaps the Youtube star has intentions to shift his Youtube fame and apparent friendships with important artists to become more famous as a musician?

Make sure to check out the videos of the appearance itself, Hikaru’s pictures with Tomorrowland DJs, and Hikaru’s Youtube channel and original music. While the cause and effect of the unexpected appearance of Japanese Youtuber Hikaru onstage in Belgium is unknown, it shows an undoubtable mutual influence between the Youtuber and some famous DJs.
