DJとしてのキャリアの始まりはシカゴの伝説的なアンダーグラウンド ダンスシーンに初めて登場した1988年に遡る。カレッジラジオから活動をスタートし、90年代初頭のシカゴにおけるレイヴやロフトパーティの発展に貢献、その独特なサウンドとスタイルが与えた影響は大きい。 その後もクラブでプレイを続け、Shelterや、ごく最近ではSmartbarのレジデントDJとしてDerrick Carter、Mark Farina、Colette、DJ Heatherらと共に活動。
90年代半ばには拠点をカリフォルニアへ移し、ヨガと瞑想を学び始めるが、この事は彼の音楽性の発展に大きな影響を与えた。音楽制作を始めるきっかけとなり、また同時に世界中を旅する機会を得るのである。
間もなくそのスタイルはハイブリッドなハウスミュージックの融合?西海岸の感性と完璧なシカゴ・スタイルが混ざり合った?として知られるようになり、Amenti、KolourやGreenhouseといったレーベルにおける最近の作品でそれを聴くことができるだろう。
そして今日、新たな活動の場を東京に移し、アンダーグラウンド ダンスミュージックのみならず、待望のアルバム制作に取り組み始める。また、自身のレコードレーベルBopsaを運営、Love Tempoのメンバーであり、さらにチルアウト/ダウンテンポのマンスリーイベントを企画中。その音楽性が紡ぎ出す旅はどんな未来へと繋がってゆくのか、ますます目が離せない。

Miles Maeda’s DJ career began back in 1988 when he was first exposed to Chicago’s legendary underground dance music scene. Starting from college radio to helping lay the foundation for Chicago’s early 90s raves and loft parties, his sound and style became a unique influence in the city. Miles continued on in clubs with residencies at Shelter and most recently Smartbar, working alongside fellow DJs like Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Colette and DJ Heather.
In the mid 90s, Miles relocated to California to study yoga and meditation which had a big impact on his musical development. It inspired him to begin producing music as well as allowed him to start traveling the globe. He soon became known for his hybrid blend of house music, melding a West Coast sensibility with impeccable Chicago style, which can be heard in his recent work on labels like Amenti, Kolour and Greenhouse.
Today, as a newly established Tokyo resident, Miles’ current projects still involve producing underground dance music as well as beginning a long overdue album. He runs his record label Bopsa, is part of the Love Tempo collective, and is about to give birth to a chill out/downtempo monthly. Stay tuned as this journey continues its way towards the musical future.
