Who are they?

Tangled Hair is a three piece band from Guildford, Surrey, formed in early 2010. They formed after the breakup of a previously successful band called ‘Colour’, in which two of Tangled Hairs members were in. They play a genre of music known as Math-pop.

What do they do?

Inspired by Math-rock, an underground genre that emerged in the 1980s with bands such as Don Caballero and Hella, Tangled Hair have used elements of this to become known as one of the pioneering bands of the Math-pop genre (Math-rock with elements of pop, such as verse-chorus structure and clean vocals). The genre is characterised by complex, atypical rhythmic structures with irregular stopping, starting and tempo changes, angular melodies and dissonant chords. It is still considered as underground music that fits into a niche market. They generally play smaller venues giving fans a more intimate experience.

Who do they do it for?

Tangled Hair write and perform for their loyal fan base, predominantly made up of rebellious teenagers who want to be original and unique, seeking music that does not associate with or follow typical popular musical trends. The fans are incredibly loyal due to the fact that the band has great customer relation management skills and they really appreciate the fans support. They make a point of socialising with fans after gigs to show they care, which is easily doable when they play in small venues and gives fans a real thrill and experience.
