Rick ”the Godson“ Wilhite has dedicated his life to the music industry; and whatever one wishes to know about Wilhite is conveyed through his music. His skill set includes DJ sets of R & B, Hip-Hop, Techno and Reggae but his “mojo” is House and Disco. Rick was born, raised and currently resides in Detroit, Michigan. He learned at an early age that a career in music takes more than playing on...Rick ”the Godson“ Wilhite has dedicated his life to the music industry; and whatever one wishes to know about Wilhite is conveyed through his music. His skill set includes DJ sets of R & B, Hip-Hop, Techno and Reggae but his “mojo” is House and Disco. Rick was born, raised and currently resides in Detroit, Michigan. He learned at an early age that a career in music takes more than playing one’s favorite records. Multi-faceted crowd control, sound engineering and creative party promotion are what make him more than a Detroit DJ. 20 plus years of DJ'ing clubs and parties 24-7, 365 makes the Godson one of Detroit’s best and most versatile DJ’s around. His venture to college in the south to Southern University allowed his skills to take the region to another level of Music. His DJ’ing styles of House, Techno, Rap and R&B helped change the black college music scene across America. Beginning in high school, Wilhite also battled in contests against well-respected DJ’s. He is still impressing audiences today, and retained his undefeated status in the DJ’ing community.
A 19-year professional within the music industry, Wilhite adds Music Historian, Salesperson, and Promoter to his list of accomplishments. During the early 80’s Wilhite worked for Buy Rite Music, which was one of the premiere record stores in the Midwest. Buy-Right specialized in servicing the DJ as opposed to having the DJ serving himself. During the early 90’s, he soon became one of the most sought-after music professionals in the industry. Equipped with a keen ear for quality music, he embarked on a path of self-proprietorship. He opened The House of Music in downtown Detroit. He currently owns and operates the record store, Vibes New and Rare Music.
Throughout his music career, Wilhite has performed for numerous international and stateside venues. He has gone by a host of names: DOC, Tech-12, Working Mixx, and most recently The Godson. Interestingly enough, each alias describes and symbolizes his relationship to his craft. He has established successful working relationships with city officials, journalists, and media personalities; and has befriended many music artists. Influenced by Detroit’s legendary pool of musicians, he entered production studios at the early age of eleven. He began remixing records in 1986 with the group NASA. Additionally, Wilhite worked alongside many electronic music pioneers, such as Juan Atkins and Derrick May. In recent years, Wilhite has established a bond with fellow musicians Marcellus Pittman, Kenny Dixon Jr. and Theo Parrish…now known as the 3 Chairs.

今回はDJであり、プロデューサー、そしてレコードショップのオーナーでもある音楽業界のベテランRick Wilhiteをデトロイトから迎え、ハウス、ディスコやソウルなど彼のハートミュージックを皆さんに届けます。RickはTheo ParishやMoodymann、Marcellus Pittman in the collectiveや '3 Chairs'などとのコラボレーションで良く知られているだろう。また彼は、その27年のキャリアの中で Juan AtkinsやDerrick Mayなどとも一緒に活動し、MoodymannのレーベルであるKDJ Recordsから曲をリリースしたりもしている。

Starting his DJ career in 2002 in Australia, cutting his teeth in a number of venues in Sydney and Wollongong, BBC decided to move to Japan in 2007. When he was finally exposed to real dance music, real clubs, real crowds and real DJ's in Tokyo, his life was transformed as he pursued to dig even deeper into dance music and the Tokyo scene. With a passion for the 'roots' of dance music, you can see him play anything from Stevie Wonder to Sister Sledge, The Rolling Stones to Robert Owens, Dennis Ferrer to Donny Hathaway.
BBC has played in all of Tokyo's major venues, including to a crowd of over 2500 people at WOMB, ageHa for Defected's 10th Birthday, UNIT, Warehouse, La Fabrique, WEDGE and a swag a handful of support sets for huge internationals at the Defected parties at AIR. He has played alongside his biggest influences Toshiyuki Goto and Dimitri From Paris as well DJ Gregory, Jamie 3:26, Ashley Beedle, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Disco Bloodbath and Charles Webster just to name a few. Despite many guest appearances at many great clubs and events, his favourite party is his own ‘4 the love’ where he is his most creative, playing long sets ranging a wide variety of genres and tempos to a crazy, energy fueled crowd. And with a recent foray into production, keep an ear out for a range of raw and soulful jams very soon.

This time around we have music industry veteran, DJ, producer and record shop owner Rick Wilhite, all the way from Detroit to lay down some House, some Disco, some Soul and anything else his heart chooses. Rick is probably best know for his collaboration with Theo Parish, Moodymann and Marcellus Pittman in the collective, '3 Chairs'. But in his 27 year career he has also worked alongside Juan Atkins and Derrick May as well as release music on Moodymann's label KDJ Records, owns a record shop and compilation series on Rush Hour Records with the same name, Vibes - New & Rare Music, has made an amazing guest mix for RA as well as featuring in other ventures.

We also have four very interesting support DJ's. The side room will feature a more Hip Hop, Funk, Neo Soul music policy, to avoid a double dose of House and add a nice contrast to the venue,. While the main room with be four-to-the-floor fun, till the cops come and kick us out! So don't expect to hear the same music all night, the DJ's will be exploring their record boxes, their skills and their creativity as they bring you their interpretation of the feel of their habitat.
