Mountain Sounds Festival に長年出演してきたアーティストの Peking Duk（ペキン・ダック）は以下のように語っている。
“Dear Australia, it breaks our heart to say the NSW Government has well and truly crossed the line,”
オーストラリア、ニュー・サウス・ウェールズ州が我々を完全にシャットダウンしたことに、非常に傷つけられた。
Peking Duk によると、ニュー・サウス・ウェールズ州の Gladys Berejiklian 氏は、2019年の「POLICE & SAFETY」料金を20万ドルに釣り上げたが、これは2018年の1万6000ドルと比較して、なんと1250％の増加率であったという。
Peking Duk は以下のようにコメントしている。
“Gladys Berejiklian says she wants festivals to continue and to grow,”
“how exactly do they grow with a $184,000 increase in police costs? Forcing festivals to pay these costs even though out of 15,000 attendees last year there were only 49 drug detections. 49. There were no drug deaths, no drug violcence, nothing to justify an increase in police costs.”
Gladys Berejiklian 氏は、フェスを継続・成長させたいと言っている。
しかし、警察費用が184,000ドルに増やされることになって、どのようにフェスが成長できるというのでしょうか。昨年は、15,000人の参加者のうち49人が麻薬所持違反で逮捕されただけであるにも関わらず、フェスティバルにこれらの支払いを強制している。その49件でも、ドラッグによる死亡事故や暴力事件ではなく、警察費用の増加を正当化できるようなものでは一切なかった。
それに対し、Gladys Berejiklian 氏は主催者側に責任がある、と記者団に語った。
“There are rules in place. We want young people to have fun, we want more tourism to the Central Coast and other places. But the festival organisers just have to obey the law. It’s not just about making a quick dollar, it’s also about keeping the people who turn up safe."
“If you can’t spend money making your event safer, well that’s a decision for you, but it’s not fair to blame the government,” she added.
Mountain Sounds organizers claim they were quoted a specific price for police on January 18, after which they were blindsided by this exorbitant increase.
