Real name / Tom Banks
Inspired by countrymen like Hudson Mohawke and Rustie as well as LA artists like Gaslamp Killer and Flying Lotus, Tom Banks AKA Lockah has emerged with his own raw, dirty, and club-driven sound. Having been experimenting with music in various forms for years – from playing in DIY guitar bands to buying up jungle records to rapping and jamming on an MPC – it wasn’t long before Lockah decided to start his own label and get some sounds out there. His debut 7” on his own Tuff Wax imprint was well-received and kick-started the label, which has since gone on to release more great music as well as birth a club night.
His next EP, the beautifully titled When U Stop Feeling Like A Weirdo & Become A Threat was released via Mad Decent’s Jeffree’s imprint and saw plenty of critical praise pour in. Since then it’s been non stop for Lockah, who has remixed for Danny Brown on Fool’s Gold and Hundred Waters on Skrillex’s OWSLA label as well as turning out boisterous new originals like Please Lockah Don’t Hurt ‘Em via Mishka NYC and Only Built 4 Neon Nites on Brighton-born label Donky Pitch.
