"The Mootekkis represent a kind of eternal present in rock'n'roll - a timeless zone of ripped t-shirts, Converse sneakers, black jeans and daydreams. More specifically, their debut EP shows the Tokyo five-piece...straddling territory somewhere between classic punk, hard rock and Libertines-style UK retro garage rock. They do it in style, with a boozy, loose feel that makes almost palpable the crush of bodies in a dark live house..." Dan Grunebaum, Metropolis
The Mootekkis is a five-piece hard rock band formed in Tokyo midway through 2008 and is made up of one Australian, one American and three Japanese guys. Relying largely on their instruments and the linguistic enhancing powers of beer to communicate, The Mootekkis have combined eastern-style proficiency with a wild-west mentality to create an outlandish kind of rock'n'roll.
In just their second year together, The Mootekkis were featured on the front cover of Japanzine after winning the magazine's nationwide Battle of the Bands 2010 competition with their no-holds-barred rocker "Hey...What You Want?" This song also launched The Mootekkis onto JIN radio and appears on their debut 6 track EP recorded in October 2010.
These five brothers from different mothers ended 2010 with an interstate trip headlining in Nagoya and kicked off 2011 with an event in the mountains of Nagano. For the three Japanese guys in the band who have never been outside their own country, rock'n'roll might just be their ticket overseas. Join us on this beer-riddled voyage
