Growing up in the south of England, Matt had always been into electronic music - entranced by the never-before-heard sounds it could deliver.
As a teenager, hearing Farley Jackmaster Funk's "Love Can't Turn Around" for the first time at a youth disco in 1986, he realised that house music was gonna be his thing: the electronic sounds he loved coupled with rhythms that made him want to tear up the dancefloor.
In 1988, when he was 17, acid house fever swept the UK, and there was no looking back. Later, attracted by the fashions and sounds of the burgeoning Madchester scene, he headed up to Manchester Metropolitan University, where he spent his student days partying at infamous clubs like the Hacienda in Manchester, Quadrant Park in Liverpool, and Shelley's in Stoke. Holidays back in the southeast of England, meanwhile, were spent at venues like the Camden Palace, the Gardening Club, the Rocket, the Velvet Underground, and the Ministry of Sound.
In 1994 he decided he needed a break from the craziness of the 1990s UK club scene, and headed to Japan, where he eventually wound up in the city of Tsu in Mie Prefecture.
