The Hit Maker, The Deejay’s DJ, The Innovator, The Infamous, The Diva: Each of these fitting monikers can point to only one man, and that man is Junior Vasquez. Junior’s career as disc jockey, music producer, songwriter, remixer and sound designer spans over three decades.
A pioneer in each discipline and tireless in his pursuits, the span of Junior’s career is dotted by landmark achievements in American popular music. Vasquez began to work with DJ and pop remixer/producer Shep Pettibone, and together they co-produced and edited numerous singles from such artists as Janet Jackson, Prince, Pet Shop Boys and others. It wasn't long before Vasquez landed a brief residency at Club Bassline, where he began to make a name for himself as a live DJ. New York’s famed Sound Factory nightclub, which Junior co-founded, marked the first of many milestones that he is continuing to mark in his illustrious and unstoppable career. It was at the Sound Factory where Vasquez became massive with his legendary after-hours sets.
“I have always been an artist by nature. However, I did not realize what my dream job was until the first time I heard Larry Levan play at the Garage. He created theater and took you on a journey that allowed you to escape for a few magical hours. I knew then what I wanted to do with my life...make music and play music. When I began to DJ it was because I wanted to connect to everyone. I wanted music to bring us together and allow us to share that light that exists in all of us. So I worked hard and built a career for myself that I could have never imagined. I’ve played in the best clubs all over the world. Worked with the biggest and most talented artists in the world. I’ve truly been blessed.” – Junior Vasquez
From Sound Factory, Junior went on to hold some of the most coveted residencies in New York and hosted most of the legendary parties at New York hotspots including: the Tunnel, Arena at the Palladium, Juniorverse at Twilo and Earth at Exit. After the ending of his weekly Earth residency in 2003, Junior spun all of New York City’s major nightclubs such as Pacha, Cielo, The Roxy, Crobar (Studio Mezmor), Spirit, District 36, XL, and his 2010 bi-monthly residence at Club Love. Junior’s career not only spans longer than his peers’, but his creative energies continue unrivaled.
Throughout his career, Junior had the opportunity to work with superstars like Madonna, Elton John, Cyndi Lauper, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and many, many others to create his signature dancefloor anthems. In addition to working with these major talents, Junior produced and released his own signature tracks such as Get Your Hands Off My Man,” “X”, “If Madonna Calls” and “Come Together.”
