Sy Karrie's musical journey started to take shape in late 99 when under the name Sy"too"Sly he landed a slot on one of Londons leading pirate stations Taste 92.5fm, after starting out with a graveyard shift Fridays 4-6am his efforts and talent were rewarded with the Friday drive time show 4-6pm. During this time he had started experimenting with producing and found he was leaning towards the darker and more energetic side of garage which in turn had started to reflect in his dj sets.
In 2001 he was signed to Killer Instinct records and under the name Syphon released the breakbeat influenced track "Dirty Punk". Due to the welcomed extra work load from Killer Instinct Sy was no longer able to commit to his radio show resulting in him reluctantly giving up his slot to concentrate on production work. Later that year Sy was commissioned to remix the single "Understand Love" taken from Ed Case's debut album "Eds Guestlist". Although "Understand Love" was never released Sy's continual remix work on Ed's album resulted in him signing a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music in 2002.
