Since early 2011, South London’s finest funk/soul/hip hop (and everything in between…) collective Get Down Sounds have established themselves as one of the biggest, most body-moving party throwers in the capital. With a focus on funk-filled party beats (and a speciality in digging out the best new re-edits/remixes/mashups), GDS are unmatched in their ability to keep a crowd shaking, able to seamlessly blend between genres to keep it fresh on the night (without the need to default to the same old cheesy crowd pleasers - David Guetta what?).
Growing from their roots in South West London, GDS DJs Liam & Sam have played out (and built residencies) at over 20 venues across all 4 corners of the capital. These include twice monthly at CAFE 1001 (Shoreditch), a monthly residency at LOST & CO (Putney) as well as their signature ‘Get Down present...’ gig, which features a guest headliner (past DJs have included DJ SHEPDOG, DJ MO FINGAZ, JIMI NEEDLES, BUSTIN’ LOOSE…), on the 3rd Saturday of the month at MARKET HOUSE in Brixton. Alongside monthly residencies, GDS have played out at London’s best nightspots including a guest slot alongside Wah Wah 45’s DOM SERVINI at BEDROOM BAR (Shoreditch), slots at AMERSHAM ARMS (New Cross), NYE at ELECTRIC SOCIAL (Brixton), sharing responsibilities with Bustin’ Loose as part of their monthly ‘Break Yourself’ residency at BLOOMSBURY LANES, past residencies at THREE BLIND MICE (Shoreditch) and THE MAGIC GARDEN (Battersea) as well as numerous private parties (DOGSTAR in Brixton and CAMP in Shoreditch). GDS take pride in partnering with some of London’s best funk/soul/hip-hop DJs (DOCTOR’S ORDERS, BRXTNFNK, DJS MAKKA & CORSINI, GET LOW CARTEL, OUT & DOWN…) to bring the funk-filled party sound to Londoners and save punters from the same old shit.
Alongside their packed DJing schedule, GDS hold a live weekly radio show each Saturday 2-4pm on east London’s finest online radio station HOXTON RADIO. The ‘Get Down Sounds Radio Show’ (www.hoxtonradio.com/get-down-sounds/) features the best in funk, soul and hip-hop (both new and old) as well as our favourite re-edits and a review of a new release each week. Aside from Hoxton Radio, GDS mixes (www.mixcloud.com/getdownsounds) are syndicated across the biggest funk/soul/hip hop radio stations globally (e.g. RADIO NULA).
Other promotional work has included featured articles in some of the world’s biggest online music sites. In 2013, PULSE RADIO published a feature - ‘Capital Cuts’ - by GDS DJs Liam & Sam on the best hip-hop events across the capital (Doctor’s Orders, Soundcrash…) as well as an exclusive guest mix including some of London’s finest homegrown hip-hop talent.
