After joining HOT 97, DJ Magic continued to take every opportunity he could to prove to his mentors, such as Funk Flex and Mister Cee, that he consistently understood that he had what it takes to do the work, going as far as to finance his own promotions and even put his own DJ Magic truck in the street to promote himself. In 2014, Magic became a Black Bottle Boy, team formulated by the man himself, Rick Ros,s to promote his Belaire Rose' Champagne. Magic has also been announced as the tri-state ambassador for DJI Drones.
"Music is my passion but helping my community means more to me," states DJ Magic. Quite the philanthropic at heart, when he is not DJing, Magic is giving back to his community with monthly visits to homeless shelters, helping organize clothes and serving food, or going to areas like Far Rockaway after Hurricane Sandy to help members of the community by giving out coats and canned goods he and his team had collected.
Growing up, DJ Magic, AKA Da Gift, shared a genuine appreciation for music with his Dad. In 1998, he received his own set of turntables from his father who was also a DJ. Magic spent hours in his basement, humbly perfecting his skills doing different blends, practicing, cutting and scratching. In a short amount of time, the young DJ upgraded from his basement to premiere nightclubs, private parties and corporate events throughout New York, Miami, Charlotte, Japan, and abroad, playing for the likes of Amerie, Brooke Valentine, Young Jeezy, Obie Trice, Jaheim, Sheek Mario, Busta Rhymes, Jeremiah, and Maino, to name a few. In 2007, he won Best Reggae/Reggaeton Mixtape from the Southern Entertainment Awards.
Currently, Magic does free mix tapes every four months, and on Valentine's Day he gives the ladies chocolate mix tapes. He recently released “The Gift-Tape” Holiday Edition mixtape, which featured his 95-year-old grandmother on the cover to remind us all the holidays are about spending time with family.
While DJ Magic continues to establish his reputation in music, he has also become known as "The Prince of the Car Game". Magic hosts his annual Custom Car & Bike show in NYC every summer. Custom cars and bikes come out to from all over the East Coast for DJ Magic's show every year, competing for trophies in different categories. Car lovers, families, and the community come out for a day of music, contest, food, games, face painting and fun!
