Peter Hook, legendary bassist of both Joy Division and later New
Order, decided to honour the outstanding work of his first band and
the undoubted genius of the late Ian Curtis by giving people the
opportunity to hear both of Joy Division's masterpiece albums,
'Unknown Pleasures' and 'Closer', live and in their entireties, backed
by his band The Light. After sold-out shows in Manchester in May 2010,
Hooky then began taking the show on the road with headline gigs, tours
and major festival appearances around the world, as well as their
first full tour of the United States.
2011 saw Hooky & The Light continue their extensive tour throughout
Europe. Exactly one year on from their debut 'Unknown Pleasures' gig,
the band recreated 'Closer' for the first time ever, again with sold
out nights in Manchester. The touring continued, visiting the United
States again for what was their second full tour of the region. In a
move which both surprised and delighted American audiences, Hooky was
joined by genuine musical superstars on the tour, with Perry Farrell
of Jane's Addiction, Billy Gorgan of Smashing Pumpkins and Moby all
lending their vocals on such legendary tracks as 'Isolation',
'Transmission' and 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'.
Early 2012 saw Peter Hook & The Light again tour Europe, as well as
performing at Japan's Oiso Hacienda Festival. In May, two years on
from 'Unknown Pleasures' and one year on from 'Closer', Peter Hook &
The Light completed their live performances of the Joy Division back
catalogue by performing 'Still' live for the first time, a compilation
album which is made up of rarer tracks/B-sides as well as a live
recording of the last ever Joy Division gig in 1980. With this gig,
Hooky completed his quest to perform every single Joy Division track
live once again.
Currently, Peter Hook and his band are revisiting the first two albums
by New Order, 'Movement' and 'Power, Corruption & Lies'. The debut
performances of these two albums took place in January 2013 at KOKO in
London and the Cathedral in Manchester, with the Cathedral show
selling out 2 months in advance. Both shows received rapturous reviews
from critics and fans alike.
