We hope you don't miss out on the ultimate dance music festival with great perfromances and breathtaking visuals. Come join this once in a lifetime experience full of LOVE and FUN
iFLYER: First of all I wanted to say congratulations and thank you for doing EDC in Japan! We are so excited to experience the world-famous electronic music festival in our home country. We are iFLYER and our mission is to send updates on the electronic dance music scene to Japanese music fans. In the recent weeks, we have been putting out many articles about EDC on iFLYER. Could you explain to us what kind of festival EDC is to you?

PASQUALE ROTELLA: To me, EDC is all about love, unity, art and music. It’s about caring for one another and expressing who you are. It’s not just a concert, it’s a movement and a safe place where people can express their individuality.

iFLYER: Why did you choose to do EDC in Japan instead of the other Asian countries?

PASQUALE ROTELLA: I love the people and the culture, and we found great partners in Japan who were excited about bringing the EDC experience to Tokyo. We also had an incredible venue available to us at Zozo Marine Stadium & Makuhari Beach Park. Celebrating EDC in Japan is a lifelong dream for me!

iFLYER: The lineup is looking amazing! Could you tell us your process of picking these artists for EDC Japan?

PASQUALE ROTELLA: The lineup is a collaboration between our team here at the Insomniac office and our local partners in Japan, who are able to provide valuable perspective on what fans are listening to out there. A good mix is really important for any festival lineup.

iFLYER: On top of the amazing lineup, EDC is famous for their beautifully decorated stages. We heard that a lot of time and money is put into planning and constructing these stages. If you feel comfortable telling us, please explain the theme and concept for EDC Japan. Also approximately how much is being spent on building the main stage?

PASQUALE ROTELLA: We will be featuring four musical areas at EDC Japan - 3 stages as well as our Boombox Art Car. We are bringing the kineticCATHEDRAL design, which to me is one of our most beautiful stages. So much time and energy goes into creating each stage. EDC is all about being transported into another world.

iFLYER: We have ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL in Japan since 2014 and tickets are sold out every year. It is known to be the biggest dance music festival in Asia at the moment. What do you think about this and what is the difference between ULTRA and EDC in your eyes? Are you familiar with any other music festivals in Japan? If so, please tell us your impression and thoughts!

PASQUALE ROTELLA:

I would say the biggest difference is the passionate community that follows EDC around the world. We have the most amazing fans and their energy really shines through at our events. Also, the production we create and the stories we want to tell through our stages, our theatrical performers, and the artwork we feature is much different than anything else you will see in the world. Again, we are not just a concert, we are a movement. We promote individuality, self-expression, and creativity. EDC and Ultra are very different events and I’m excited for Japan to experience what we have to offer.

iFLYER: Are you familiar with the Japanese club and dance music scene? Have you ever gone to a Japanese club? iFLYER is a billingual website where you can find events happening around you. If you plan on coming to Japan some time soon, please check us out!

PASQUALE ROTELLA: I have not yet gone out to dance music events in Japan. I have only gone out there for meetings so far. I am very excited to experience the Japanese dance music scene, and I’ll definitely make sure to check out!

iFLYER: Do you have a special message for the Japanese dance Music fans coming to EDC Japan?

PASQUALE ROTELLA:

All Are Welcome here! EDC should be a place where you feel safe to express yourself and let go of your inhibitions. Dance like no one’s watching. Shake up the structure and dress crazy or meet new people and try new things. Break out of the every day and experience everything. We hope our fans in Japan will bring their most colorful, individual energy and we can’t wait to see you there!

iFLYER: Thank you very much for your time!
