One of the most talented and influential DJ’s to come out of Liverpool, Steve Parry was first hit by the music bug as a youngster – learning to do edits on his double tape deck at home. This soon developed into an obsession – his part time job as one of the most sought after mobile party DJ’s in Liverpool was financing his addiction to all things vinyl…hip hop, soul and house. At the tender age of 18 Steve had progressed and developed into club DJing, having been given his opportunity by Dave Ralph at seminal Liverpool club Fallows, he was soon spinning alongside DJ’s who would go on to shape the musical soundtrack for the next decade; the likes of Sasha, Laurent Garnier and Dave Seaman.
Like many DJ’s at the time Steve was working hard up and down the country, honing his craft, learning from those he was playing alongside and he developed a solid reputation. He took offers of residencies in many clubs in Liverpool, whilst still playing across the country. Time and music moved on and Steve found himself feeling a little restricted in Liverpool, the music he wanted to play was not it seemed what the promoters in Liverpool at the time wanted to have played in their clubs. So….in 1997 Alderaan was formed, located in the ‘room above a pub’; the infamous Lemon Lounge (which years later would also be the starting place for Chibuku Shake Shake) played host to the likes of Howells, Zabiela, Burridge, Quivver amongst many others. Alderaan was a massively important club in Liverpool’s house history and one that has shaped the musical landscape of the city’s club scene to this very day.
If Alderaan as a club helped shape Liverpool’s club scene, Steve himself has helped shape the sound of dance music across the globe. For the last 10 years Steve was manager at the world famous 3 Beat records in Liverpool. 3 Beat has provided the worlds most well known and talented DJ’s with their tunes and Steve was instrumental in building and continuing relationships with these DJ’s…forming friendships and knowing what records would suit the individuals concerned…DJ’s from Jules, Tong and Oakenfold to Digweed, Sasha and Warren to Howells, Sneak and Park certainly have a lot to thank Steve and 3 Beat for!!
Into the present time and Steve hosts a weekly radioshow, ‘The Red Zone’ on JuiceFM, Liverpool’s best independent radio station (www.juicefm.com) where he breaks new tunes and has regular mixes from some of the premier names in house and techno. He has also delivered two very well received mixes for John Digweeds’ Global Transitions show on Kiss.
2009 saw Steve launch SMP3 Music Management, thrusting himself to the forefront of the Music Industry once again, dealing with Timo Maas & Dave Seaman on a daily basis sourcing them the hottest tracks – whilst also developing his own dj agency as well an A&R consultant for several labels and artists.
DJ wise Steve finds himself in demand by home and abroad, playing gigs in such diverse places as Russia, Mexico and Greece amongst others, as well as shows at UK Clubbing institutions like Creamfields, Shindig, Renaissance, The Warehouse Project and Circus.
A DJ who has huge respect within the industry from his peers, someone who has a unrivalled musical knowledge and taste that only few can compete with – he is above all else a music lover.
