Justin-James has been listening to music his entire life, which began with his parents record collections consisting of Reggae, Ska, 80’s Soul, Lover’s Rock, Rare Groove & Pop classics.
At aged 7, he began saving his pocket money to invest in his 7" record collection. One of his first was Smooth Criminal a classic 80’s hit by Michael Jackson (1987) and one of his favourites is “Charlie” by The Prodigy (1991). Kiss FM (Pirate radio) was has station and Steve Jackson his DJ.
By 1992 the Hardcore Rave scene was in full swing and with the rise of the Compact Disc it was becoming more difficult so at aged 12 he began to visit specialise record shops to find releases on vinyl.
In 1993 he was now at secondary school in East London and first laid his eyes and hands on a Technics 1200 (Silver) record deck. Jungle was the sound of the time and Kool FM was the radio station.
Hip Hop was his preferred sound for years to come until he was introduced to US House by his Sister Maxine (who was older) around 1996.
In 1998 whilst at university out of London and due to a lack of ‘urban’ music he bought a pair of Technics 1200’s and became a DJ and was promoting. It did not take long before he was a resident DJ for Sidewinder Recordings one of the biggest promotions in Garage and by early 2000 he was playing at The Sanctuary, Milton Keynes, Temple and the Camden Palace.
In 2006 he was a Redident for Funk'n'B with DJ Whispa, playing alongside the likes of Pied Piper, Creed, NG, MC DT, Rankin, Versatile, Carlos Aries and more.
A former South Port Weekender Veteran, he was DJing at the Legendary Dirty Skunks chalet parties alonside Lil Stevie.
He became Resident DJ for PHILOSOPHY from the first event at the LightBox in March 2009, which is still going strong in 2013. Keep an eye on this DJ.
