Mesak (Tatu Metsätähti) hails from Turku, the birthplace of modern Finnish electronic music, and now resides in Helsinki. He has enjoyed a two-decade-plus career in some of the most fascinating nooks and crannies of the Finnish scene, from clubs to galleries and in various groups as well as a solo act.
As a solo artist, Mesak’s discography is as diverse as it is extensive, with releases on respected labels like Klakson, Orson Records, and Dum Records. Perhaps best known for being one half of the legendary electro-duo Mr Velcro Fastener, he, alongside Imatran Voima, defined the Finnish electro sound of the early 2000s. Collaborating with Norwegian singer Erlend Øye in another duo project , Mesak ventured into house music, releasing tracks on labels like Force Tracks, Slip ’n’ Slide Blue, and Kickin Records. He was also a pivotal figure in the Scandinavian skweee movement, co-founding it with Perttu Häkkinen, among others. More recently, Mesak has been active with the worldbeat avant-pop project Ya Tosiba with the Azerbaijani singer Zuzu Zakaria.
