Originally from Italy, Matt.B started his music career touring Europe with his punk band Psychotic Reactions in the late 80s.The band became popular opening gigs for bands like DOA,UK SUBS,STRUNG OUT and DINOSAUR JR . After graduating from a sound engineering course in Holland, he then moved to the UK where he started his career as producer of electronic music and DJ.
Encompassing musical styles from different parts of the globe, he manages to present a total blend, crossing genres and borders. His influences range from dub and dub-step to IDM and techno. He has played in some of the most famous clubs in both the UK (Ministry of Sounds, Mass, Herbal, 303, SEOne, Turnmills) and in Japan (Ageha, Womb, UNIT, Air and LaFabrique).
In 2004 He wrote the soundtrack for “Dies de Carton,” a beautiful documentary by Veronica Souto,and Pablo Robledo which explores the politics of poverty in Buenos Aires, focusing on a community who haunt the city's streets at night, scavenging for cardboard. The documentary won 13 awards worldwide.
Matt B became increasingly in demand for his production skills and in the following year was contracted to write scores and to create the sound design for TV commercials for OAKLEY Sportwear (On MTV networks), AMA ESPN Japan , MIZUHO Bank and AOYAMA Capital.
During the summer of 2005 he did the production for the commercial ‘Legends are Born’ for the Soccer World Cup, which initially aired on STAR CHANNEL SINGAPORE and soon after aired in many other South Asian countries. The CM won PROMAX ASIA 2005 as BEST IDENTITY and BEST ANIMATION.
In 2005, Matt become A&R for Celestial Dragon. In 2006 he launched Elektrik Dragon, a sub-label of the Sonic Dragon family, which was more oriented towards dub-step, glitch-step, glitch-hop.
In the summer of 2005 , while touring Europe ,he collaborated with producer and dub maestro Gaudi (Six Degrees Records) for his 'Continvvm' album on seminal UK ambient label EM:T. The co-produced track, 'Bass Instinct' received a large amount of airplay on BBC radio 1
November 2005 saw the release of Future Sound Theory (compiled and prodcued by Matt B), a collection of twelve stand-out tracks, ranging in scope from organic sound sculpture to electro dub to melodic glitch. Among the artists were Monolake, Gaudi and edIT (Planet Mu).
The release reached #1 on the Morpheous Award best chill VA
In 2006, Matt B scored and and designed the sound for another successful commercial, this time for YAMAHA Motorbikes - a testimonial the world champion Valentino Rossi.
At the same time he also released the track Dubmage with his electro-dub project RND (aka RaNDom) on Bluetech’s imprint Native State Records.
In September 2007, he went on his first tour of the US west coast. RND played in California (San False Profit in San Francisco,Symbiosis Gathering in Sacramento, and Homeworks in Los Angeles).
In November 2007 Matt B started a new project:: a collaboration with LA based producer Nalepa - BASS SCIENCE. The 1st release was an EP on Native State Records. The pair has since played in the UK (Glade festival,Synergy Project,Big Chill), US (Low End Theory-LA, Priceless-SF,Intelligent Designers-Chicago, Abstractearth project-Portland,etc etc).
Later in 2008/ the beginning of 2009 they will release more material on Detroit Underground, Bankai (Combat Records new inprint), Elektrik Dragon and Blood
Tribe record.
In February 2008 Bass Science 'Imminent Threat' was ranked as one of Dave Allen's (Gang of Four) favourite songs
They are currently working on 2 remixes for Adam Freeland and Evil Nine ( Marine Parade.)
In April 2008 Matt B released the album ‘Ask The Dust’ as RND: Roger Linley (from the London Philarmonic Orchestra) at the bass, Shinsuke Inoue(a long term student of the revered Kul Bhushan Bhargava) on tablas and Brother Culture (Trojan Sound System) MC.
Mary Anne Hobbs and Nick Luscombe played a few tracks on BBC Radio 1 and Resonance.FM.
Gigs: Synergy Project,Glade Festival,Secret Garden festival ,etc etc etc.
A new vinyl, more dubstep oriented ,will be released in December 2008.
A few weeks later another compilation cured by mattB was released on the HK label Celestial Dragon: Future Sound Theory 2.
This second chapter presents 10 of the most interesting producers in the electronic scene today. Matt B once again decided not to follow an easy trend, instead opting to deliver a diverse yet incredibly cohesive showcase of what is the state of electronic music in 2008
In August 2008 the Final Fantasy remix project sees the light of day : Matt B wrote and produced 6 of the 12 tracks for Dog Ear Records (Nobuo Umematus’s label) on Square Enix. The CD is already a classic with 20,000 copies sold in just one month.
He is currently working on a solo album under the name NOIZEMAFIA
