The "Fairlight" was a Rodriquez PT50 hydrofoil anchored out of Fairlight, New South Whales in the 1970s and 80s. It lent its name to the first digital sampling synthesizer designed by Peter Vogle and Kim Ryrie, an instrument that revolutionized music production for decades to come.
"In 1979, the way we make music changed. Forever..."

This event aims to capture the essence of that period in music history, it's pioneering optimism, the endless possibilities and nascent legacy of digital sampling. Through our pseudo-nostalgic lens of interpretation we are looking back on the worlds oldest New Technology.
Thirty five years on, the legend of Fairlight continues.

Special Guests from the USA: Kudo. and Kevin Barney
Coming up in the American West, in stoic isolation reminiscent of the buttes in their native Utah's Monument Valley, they have raised their ears like antennas to the expansive desert skies and pulled in transmissions from a by-gone age. Hence come two young artists who seem to have an almost preternatural understanding of the musical styles and influences of musicians a generation before them.
Kudo's impressionistic atmospheres are Jazz inflected canvases, stretched over a frame of heavy head-nod with figures from the late 90s and early 00s strewn about the mid-ground. He deftly manoeuvres through the aural geographies of Detroit, Los Angeles, and Osaka, wearing his influences like a cloak of subtle camouflage rather than a badge of honour. You never saw him coming.
Kevin Barney's debut is similarly clandestine, though his approach quite different. He glides in from the Stratosphere on a delta-wing drop ship before diving bass first into a syncopated kick/snare beat and laying down cover fire of machine gun hi-hats. Yet this is no frantic, pitched battle he is fighting. There is something serene and deliberate in his execution, a confidence that belies his youth. This Cybernetic Cupid calmly draws his recurve-sine wave bow, takes aim at our hearts, and looses a volley of laser guided melodies. We can only standby, dumbstruck, as the scene unfolds in slow motion.
