Devin Gilmer, (Devious D) was first exposed to the electronic culture at a Prodigy concert in Seattle Circa 1997. The opener was none other than Meat Beat Manifesto’s lead man Jack Dangers who inspired Devious to seek out the scene in his hometown of Denver. "I still remember my first rave, back in '98 – it was the Sun party in Evergreen, CO. It was a culture shock I couldn’t get enough of. If you were there, you know!"
Since then, Devious D has been deep into house music, with tastes going all across the board - progressive to tech, vocal to funk and everything deep in between.
As a college student, D spent most of his time in Fort Collins Colorado. It was there that he acquired his first break into the scene with a residency at Club Static. He soon thereafter joined The Beatpimpz crew. Since then he’s performed at most of Denver’s top nightspots including Beta, The Church, Vinyl, The Shelter, The Funky Buddha, Purple Martini, Lotus, 2AM, City Hall and many others. DeviousD was a part of the famed Twenty40 crew as well as Lavish Nightlife and has started his own label Soul Residue.
You may have seen him behind the decks with Arylle, another seasoned TWENTY40 DJ/Producer. They thrashed Vinyl New Years Eve'06 with Funky House opening the night for Donald Gluade, and headlined the second stages of the notorious parties 2k6 and the Caffiene Tour in Colorado. They also were booked for the opening night of The Fundacion Residency for Sasha at Vinyl in Denver.
With over 8 years of DJing, seamless mix CDs, and countless friends in the national dance music scene, Devious D is now turning his attention to production and leaving the Twenty40, and the recent addition Twenty42, behind to pursue his career on an international level. His residencies have included nights at The Funky Buddha, Alibi, Lavish and the Beatport Lounge in Beta as well as a monthly night for Global Fridays at The Church.
2010 is looking very promising for DeviousD along with his new crew Just Us and his label Soul Residue. Soul Residue Sessions podcast has just launched with the best in house music twice a month, with a mix from Devious D and a Guest Mix. It can be found on iTunes and at http://www.SoulResidue.com. Look out for him traveling to play this year in Omaha, Chicago, Miami, and Seattle, San Francisco, as well as many other nights in Denver with some releases coming soon.
