UHNELLYS are a two piece band that combine a range of genres to create a sound that is completely different from anything I have heard before. Using live sampling of guitar riffs, bugle and backing vocals; a mix of Midi's tight drum beats and Kim's excellent rapping skills UNHELLYS give a performance that is so infectious you can not help but to groove along.

Last night they played at 251 in Shimokitazawa and from start to finish had an incredible energy. They are the sort of band that would appeal to fans of all genres, whether it be rock, hip hop, jazz or punk nobody will be left disappointed! After the show I sat down with the band to get a feel of who they are!

How did you feel the show went?
The crowd today seemed a little older but that was cool, we like to play as a support band and play to the fans of others. We can then get an almost pure reaction from the crowd.

Describe your sound for first time listeners?
*I was asked to describe it for them
Rock infused hip hop or hip hop infused rock... it's new, it's different and it is awesome!

Who are you influences?
Soul Coughing
Mike Doughty (After UHNELLYS toured with him, Kim was invited to feature on Mike's new album)

How did you come up with your sound?
We used to have an actual vocalist, so when he left we decided to carry on as a duo. I would have to sing so I figured away of recording and sampling my guitar riffs etc live and used that opportunity to rap over the top.

Who would you most like to tour with?
Jon Spencer
And a Japanese band?
The Birthday

Where does the name come from?
Uhnelly (pronouced oonely) comes from the Japanese word meaning wave motion. Which is what we want to create with our music.

Thanks guys!
