Only in Japan can you get away with not only cursing in your band name but naming your show Who The Fuck and still make it sound cute. As Nao comes out and shouts Who The Fuck Vol.17 to the audience it all seems ok, it is cute, it is cool and it is rock n roll.
WTB rip into Vector with a roar from the crowd, Nao and Ehi are both small in height but they are massive in energy. Their fans love them, and from the get go people are crowd surfing, stage diving and falling all over each other, considering the average age inside Shimokitazawa Garden was about 40 this was pretty impressive. The girls fed of the energy, and likewise the crowd fed off the girls, even from the back of the venue I could feel that raw power coming from the stage.
After a energy filled beginning with classics such as Telephone and Stand Up, WTB gave the audience a taste of their new album Music (to be released Oct 15) with their new song Algorithm, a melodic tune which kept the crowd listening intensely. The chemistry between Ehi and Nao is something you don’t see so often, effortlessly they played as one and knew exactly where each other were at all time. Watching them is slightly mesmerizing, and every time they look out into the crowd and smile you feel like they are smiling just for you. There set continued rocking the crowd singing along to every song until new song TOKIO, another really well written and composed song, at this rate the new album is going to be very good. WTB have a group of hardcore fans, who have formed a really amazing community, they all work really hard for their times to let go at these shows.
I spoke to a few before and after and they are some of the most welcoming people, this is the vibe you get from WTB. They love their fans as much as the fans love them, there is no barrier between the floor and the stage and after a rip roaring encore ending the band had no problem walking around and chatting to their waiting fans, signing cd’s and hanging out like old friends. They are really cool girls, and the music they are making is awesome. It’s rock n roll with a twist, their energy and performance along with their incredible song writing abilities.
Their 2nd full length album Music is released on October 15th, if I were you I would make sure to get your hands on it. They embark on their one man promotional tour soon after so if you want a great night out make sure to go and see them.
Get tickets to their show in Sapporo here, would be cool to see you there.
