Alfa Future People 2016
An electronic music and technology festival that took place in Bolshoe Kozino, Russia on July 22-24 weekend. Supported by Alfa Bank and headlined by Martin Garrix, Armin Van Buuren, Axwell ^ Ingrosso and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, the festival gathered world’s finest DJs from the Top-20 of the DJ Magazine Top-100 on its main stage.

With the 3-day attendance of more than 50 000 people from 20 countries, the festival has seen 3.8 terabyte of 4G and Wi-Fi traffic (Beeline’s 4G mobile internet workload increased 3 times compared to the previous year). Three comfortable festival camping grounds hosted a total of 16 000 visitors.

It was a 3-day non-stop marathon of the best electronic music on two general and three alternative stages. A cyborg lady holding a colossal beating heart with a DJ mixing console has become the central part of the huge 9-storey high festival’s main stage. The Bass Stage also hosted a line-up of leading global and Russian artists, from Infected Mushroom, WIWEK and GTA to Viktor Stroganov and Duo Belset. On the mash-up stage, the festival crowd had a chance to hear alternative musical styles: deep house, techno, hard techno, dram&base, house, g-house, trap, pop, rock-n-roll, rock, disco and the 90ies hits.

Armin Van Buuren, on the AFP headliners, shared his impressions of the festival

For me it’s one of the finest festivals of the year. I was amazed by the production, and the stage was just WOW, unbelievable! I think that this festival is on par with Electric love, Tomorrowland, Ultra. It’s a unique event, not a copycat one. I think it’s a must for every DJ to include this festival to their schedule and play here. The dance music is so popular in Russia, people love it here. I also enjoy the fact that promoters invest in quality, in sound, in stage design. They create the right conditions for the artists, I even had my own trailer there. Everything is important, and I think that Alfa Future People is an essential part of the dance music future in Russia.

Alfa Future People 2016 was not only about music. The 50-hectares festival grounds included the Technology zone with the dedicated lecture hall, a number of play-fields for master-classes and competitions in 15 sports and more than 30 cafes and bars representing the culinary traditions of the world’s different countries.

The festival’s Technology zone dubbed the “Future City” has doubled its size to 5000 m2. It was divided into special sections representing key elements of the urban infrastructure. For the first time in Russia’s festival history a full operational “Smart House” was built at AFP grounds. Besides that, there was a demonstration of the world’s best gadgets, including the HoloLens Russian debute, Bluesmart intellectual suitcase, Glyph portable cinema and more than 100 other gadgets. The entertainment center displayed the leading virtual reality technologies like HTC Vive, Oculus Rift customer version and Fibrum virtual shooter developed in Russia.

The scientific laboratory invited guests to know more about the neural networks and to learn how to control the living insects with the human mind. In the transportation zone the attendees had opportunity to test-drive 20 types of modern transportation – from electric scooters to the one-wheel hover board. The flight zone included drones piloting lessons and a chance to overlook the festival grounds from the birds-eye view using the FPV helmet.

Another technological insight from the future was provided by Beeline, namely a chat-bot using the Find Face technology in the Vkontakte social network. Created especially for AFP, it allowed the festival guests to receive all festival photos with them after writing a “Hello, Bot” message to the Beeline-Bot Vkontakte group. With 12 000 inquiries the bot has sent more than 30.5 thousands of photos until August 7, providing every guest with their high-quality photos.

Active and healthy lifestyle remains one of the AFP features for 2016. The sports zone included football and volleyball fields, climbing wall, yoga and fitness areas, and an American football grounds. Morning workouts, extreme sports master classes, pit-bike and fly-fit renting opportunities and many more provided the “future people” with a chance to experience various sports, from brand-new yoga-rave to classic football and volleyball.

This year Alfa Future People had an amazingly high level of infrastructure. All VIP tickets were sold out two months before the event, while the three camping grounds passes were sold out one month before the festival opening. Other guests visited the festival during a day trip, using Russia’s first dedicated festival transportation system, the 24-hours Alfa Future People trains with the festival residents’ soundtrack that departed the Nizhniy Novgorod Moskovsky rail terminal every 30 minutes.

Storage rooms, charging lockers for the mobile devices and gadgets, food courts with various meals, including vegetarian, made the festival stay comfortable and convenient for dozens of thousands of guests. Wireless Internet access on the territory exceeding 300 000 m2, twice bigger than last year, provided the “future people” with a real-time opportunity to share their photos and impressions. BMW has provided the festival’s special guests with a VIP-transfer.

All festival grounds once again became a cash-free zone thanks to Mastercard. Each guest has received a special wristband with a Mastercard no-touch technology chip, working both as the festival pass and as quick and safe payment system based upon the pre-paid Alfa Bank card. Festival guests can use this fast, convenient and safe technology during the card validity period even after the festival. Mastercard has prepared some surprises for the EDM fans, like a gift giveaway for the funniest photo in social networks. Specially for the festival’s VIP guests an Invaluable Mastercard Photobooth was installed in the dedicated zone to allow the attendees make some special photos for their social network pages.
