町田良夫 | Yoshio Machida + Cal Lyall
Forever venturing into new territories, sound/visual artist and steel pan player Yoshio Machida has taken his chosen instrument on a singular path of quiet expression, amassing a fine catalogue of eclectic releases along the way. In addition to a wide range of solo and collaborative work, he is a member of Serbian post-rock unit Walk With the Penguin, dub-electronica unit miimo (with tatsu and Norihide Saji) and Ohanami (with Tatsuhisa Yamamoto). Some of this work is documented on the Amorfon imprint, a record label he founded to investigate the realm of experimental music, releasing everything from baby improvisations to Serbian pop.
On this evening, he'll be joined by Tokyo-based guitarist and sound artist Cal Lyall, whose work explores traditional musical forms in numerous projects (Tetragrammaton, Jahiliyyah, Cataract, Palimpsest, etc.), while incorporating influences ranging from free-flowing drone to ecstatic improvisation. Following a string of releases on Utech, Medama and Subvalent records, an album of his underwater recordings will be released on Australia's X-ALT label later in the year, coinciding with an installation and hydrophone-based performance at this year's Melbourne Festival.

夏の大△ | Great△ (大城真 | Makoto Oshiro + 川口貴大 | Takahiro Kawaguchi + 矢代諭史 | Satoshi Yashiro)
A group of unconventional artists with a penchant for defying expectations, Great △ ('Great Triangle', if you were stumped) concoct performances that mix sound art with installation for a unique and evolving experience. Depending on the space, the three members (Makoto Oshiro, Takahiro Kawaguchi and Satoshi Yashiro) might create teetering works of sound art, install motorized gagdets around the room or even rearrange the furniture.
