LIVING ROOM™12th Anniversary Special Supported by Carhartt WIP
What is A Love From Outer Space?
We introduced it last year—but as we reunite, it’s worth revisiting once more. The project began in 2010 at The Waiting Room, founded by Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johnston. Guided by Andy’s concept of the “hypnobeat” and the mantra Never knowingly exceeding 122 BPM, their long-form sets—where dark acid dub meets dreamy alternative disco and melodic indie dance—would slowly expand from an intimate floor into something much larger, something ecstatic.
Released in 2012, Masterpiece: Created by Andrew Weatherall captures a single night of that very party. Around that time, ALFOS became established as a unit name, and their singular long sets began to draw global attention. Even after Andrew Weatherall journeyed into the cosmos in 2020, Sean has continued to carry the spirit—pushing an eclectic blend of psychedelic and Balearic sounds under 122 BPM, still transmitting love from outer space.
Last year, PPP and Sean crossed paths, leaving a deep imprint on the Japanese scene. Also known as Hardway Brothers of the UK’s Trackwerk crew, his sound fuses the drive of disco with the resonance of thunderous dub, the force of post-punk, and elements of proto-house and acid house—all held within a mid-tempo framework. Night after night, he creates something with spirit, earning devoted support, especially across the UK.
Joining Sean to shape the floor is YAMARCHY, a true collector in every sense—constantly invited to festivals and venues such as Festival de FRUE, Rainbow Disco Club, rural, Wonderfruit, Equation, and Panorama Bar. What he collects is not only records, but fleeting moments that unfold on the dancefloor. The gradual rise of energy, the reinterpretation of sounds hidden within genres—he has built his path as a designer of countless nights. His sound doesn’t come as pressure from the front, but feels as if it descends from above. A sound that values patience over force—deeply connected to the origin of ALFOS at The Waiting Room. Long narratives, unexpected turns—music that rewards those who stay.
On the 1F floor, PPP’s close affiliates Alien Sex Friends deliver a 5-hour set. Originating from Mitsuki, directed by YAMARCHY—who also appears on 2F—the collective now commands a strong following across Japan. Also joining is Kaoruko, who has releases on the ASF-run label, opening the night with a live set and signaling the kickoff on the dancefloor.
On the 4F floor, PPP regulars TPC and Masayasu curate their signature space. Rather than being bound by genre alone, they seek connections to the deeper meaning of dance music. ShioriyBradshaw and Nari, selected with maximum freedom, join Masayasu in exploring the original experience of music and party.
PPP holds no rose-tinted nostalgia, no self-congratulatory ego. What exists here is elevation—an ascent toward higher states—and a shared sense of affirmation. The DJs gathered here are not here to simply perform, but to search for something beyond—with a deep love for music. And for that journey, dancers are essential.
