Claudia Vazquez was born in Texas. At a young age Claudia was always surrounded by music, especially by her father who was also a singer and entertainer. Her early years were spent accompanying him to various performances and it is here that she learned the art of entertaining and found the love of music. At a mere five years of age, Claudia began performing in talent contests and local malls “wowing” those who watched the young girl sing with such power and soul. When Claudia turned six, her father joined the military and was stationed in Honolulu Hawaii, which became their home through her young adult life. It was in her Island home that Claudia gravitated to two inspirational singers, Madonna and Tina Turner because of their powerful talent and strong presence on stage. She was moved by their music and was further inspired to express herself through songs and lyrics.
As a teenager entering high school Claudia auditioned for school musicals and was ready to take on any lead role! By the age of sixteen Claudia recorded her first album of pop music where she covered such hits as “Dancing Queen” by Abba. The same year she released her album she entered a contest in Hawaii called “Road To Fame” where she sang “Open Arms” by Journey. Even though she did not win that night she walked away with something better. She was discovered by Henry Bergstrom a producer from Sweden who worked with groups such as Ace of Base. Teaming up with Henry, Claudia further cemented her career as a member of Sunland, a Hawaii-based band that created Pop music with Hawaiian nuances. “We Are Only Human” was their first single released, and was one of very few Hawaii-based hits that has received airtime on Top 40 stations throughout the U.S.
In 1998, Claudia was signed to JVC /Victor, Japan, where she released four albums. Claudia’s number one hits in Japan include: “I’ll be There”, “Gimme Gimme Gimme”, and “We Are Only Human”. She toured the country to promote her albums, and her music video for “I’ll be There” placed in the Top 5 on MTV Japan in 2001.
An internationally recognized artist, Claudia’s cover of “Hotel California” (National Release) reached number one on the charts in Sweden. She was also the opening act in Honolulu for 98 Degrees in 1998. In 2000, Claudia performed live with Mandy Moore for the MTV Movie Awards and was honored when Billboard Magazine recognized her with the title, New Promising Artist.
Claudia played a role in the Disney film, Raising Helen, and can also be seen in Princess Diaries 2, as Princess Claudia, which were both produced by the infamous Gary Marshall. She has also been recording songs for an upcoming album in Los Angeles and is working on various movie projects.
