Tonight’s event, brought to you by mangalife, celebrates the birthdays of DJ TANKO, king of the Osaka nightclub scene, and Tokyo anthropologist YONE. Both of these gentlemen are turning 51 ? come and see them both perform rare DJ sets at what is sure to be a phat party!

YONE (CexWork) aka Yasumasa Yonehara aka 50/50
Born on May 20th in 1959, Yone is same age as Barbie dolls and The Tokyo Tower, 50 years old: a grown man with a solemn child’s mind. Famed for his depictions of women on cheki-type Polaroid film, Yone has become a cult figure both in Japan and, increasingly, overseas.

DJ TANKO (LOW DAMAGE) aka 50/50
DJ TANKO is the godfather of the Osaka hip hop scene ? the Afrika Bambaata of West Japan. Besides his work as a DJ, he also works as a producer, critic and clothing designer. After experiencing the nascent hip hop scene in New York in 1979, he brought his knowledge back to Japan. DJ TANKO’s popular mix CD series “TOUR DE GROOVE” is worth checking out.

DJ KEN-BO
DJ KEN-BO began his deejaying career in 1984, at the age of 12. As a dancer he appeared on TV many times. From 1990, he supported ZOO as a DJ, and was the music selector for TV Asahi program “DADA”. In 1994 he worked as the live DJ for King Gidora. In 1997 he formed the hip hop group U.B.G. with ZEEBRA, UZI, and OJ&ST. In 1999 he was the main DJ for the NAKAMA RACING TOUR. He is also a producer and has been producer the regular Friday night event The Finest held at Shibuya club HARLEM since 2003. He also works on finding new talent for “MTV STAR TOUR”.

GUNHEAD
Hailing from Aichi Prefecture, GUNHEAD started his career in the 90s mixing hip hop and techno. This mixture was very unusual at the time. After playing with DJ HANGER, they formed LEOPALDON. His highly original style mixes electro, techno, breaks, Baltimore, fidget, house, hip hop, Japanese rap and other genres is highly rated. He is ranked 30th best DJ in Japan by dance music magazine LOUD.

DJ SARASA
Born in Yokohama and raised in NYC, Sarasa began working as a radio DJ in Canada in 2002. She returned to Japan in 2005, and was involved in the promotion of movies “Block Party” and “RIZE”. Her DJ sets have a performance element incorporating scratching and breakdance, and have a cosmopolitan. She is very versatile, and has a broad fan base ranging from fashion-conscious teens to former disco animals.

PELI
An eclectic mix of '80s, punk, rockabilly, hip-hop, reggae, ska, rock, swing and various other genres defines PELI’s DJ style. She also works as a stylist for magazines as well as on music videos for music acts. Her love for '80s and '50s styles - in terms of both fashion and music, and the way she mixes them - have hit a chord with the fashionista crowd in Tokyo, making her one of the most in-demand DJs for hipster parties. PELI is a resident DJ at regular event GIRL FRIEND at MOTEL 203 as well as other parties.
