Shazamは、1999年に設立されたイギリス発のアプリケーションで、スマートフォンやコンピューター上のマイクを使用し、辺りに流れている楽曲を識別するというもの。Shazamがトラックを特定すると、ユーザーはその曲を聴いたり購入するためのサイトに誘導される。
買収金額は推定４億ドルと見込まれており、これはAppleの最大規模の買収であることは間違いないという。過去にはAppleはBeats musicを30億ドルで買収している。
Appleは12月11日、下記の声明を発表。
